Child and Adolescent Treatment: Dr.Faedda is a clinical instructor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NYU Langone Medical Center/ NYU Child Study Center.
Dr. Faedda has specialized in the treatment of condition that first onset during childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. These formative years are critical for several developmental tasks, social and emotional maturation, as well as one’s relationships with parents, siblings, and peers and oneself). Mental health issues are painful and disabling conditions. They often affect the person’s self-esteem, and can eventually determine personal and academic success. Treatment modalities combine several interventions including medication management, individual and family therapy, parenting and group therapy, as well as coordination of care with educators and other professionals.

Young Adults/Adults/Geriatric Psychiatry
Young Adult and Adult Treatment: Dr. Faedda participated in the McLean First Psychosis Study, evaluating and treating young adults hospitalized for their first psychotic episode. Thanks to his interest in the course of psychiatric disorders, Dr. Faedda has treated many youths as they gradually developed into young adults, have their own family and progress through life. With 30 years of experience helping patients to manage their psychiatric condition throughout the various stages of life. Many adolescents and young adults face academic and professional challenges and many can benefit from the guidance and support that treatment with Dr. Faedda can provide. Dr. Faedda advocates a collaborative problem-solving approach to medical and psychological care, including medication managment, talk therapy and life style changes to help patients and their families achieve their treatment goals.

1. PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATION
The initial meeting is 60-90 minutes long. During this meeting, Dr. Faedda will be gathering information about current and past issues that lead to stress. At the end of the evaluation, a diagnostic summary is provided and a plan for treatment will be discussed. In some cases, more than one meeting is needed to determine a plan for treatment.
2. PSYCHOTHERAPY
Dr. Faedda has 30 years of clinical experience with various modalities of talk therapy. Therapy sessions are usually 50 minutes long and scheduled one or more times weekly. While Dr. Faedda is trained in psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, family, and supportive psychotherapy, he prefers an eclectic model. Dr. Faedda will work collaboratively with the patient and their families to help them identify and achieve their treatment goals.
3. MEDICATION MANAGEMENT
Dr. Faedda is an extensively trained and experienced clinician, researcher and psychopharmacologist. After a comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Faedda will formulate a treatment plan with you. Medication management visits range from 30 minutes to 45 minutes in length.
4. Parent Consultation
Sometimes parents of youths with psychiatric or psychological challenges can benefit from meetings with Dr. Faedda to discuss the different approaches to address their child’s needs. Discussing treatment, parenting skills, and techniques with parents can help them feel empowered and supported when making complex decisions about their children and families. Parenting sessions are typically 50 minutes in length.
5. Family Therapy
Family Therapy Sessions are typically scheduled on a weekly basis for 45 minutes. Family therapy is helpful for identifying the complex issues that lead to conflicts between family members. The goal of the family therapy is to identify and possibly change patterns in the family dynamic in order to improve the family’s functioning..
6. Coordination of Treatment Services and Referrals
There may be times when Dr. Faedda will recommend further medical, psychological or laboratory/radiology/sleep studies. A referral to experts in pediatricians, schools and other behavioral health professionals in order to determine the appropriate plan for treatment and to monitor treatment progress.
